End actress Romy Schneider, The Tragedy When life imitates art
Rosemarie Magdalena Albach (Romy) was born in Vienna in Austria in 1938 in the movie star couple Magda Schneider (Germany) and Wolf Albach-Retty (Austria). Unfortunately, the marriage ended when Romy was 5 and she had little contact with his father after.
Romy first movie was Wenn der weiße Flieder wieder Blühte (When the lilacs bloom again white) in 1953 and appeared at his mother, who oversaw his playing career. Two years later, at age 17 she was cast as Sissi (1955) in the film Sissi with its two sequels (his real mother played his mother in the film). The trilogy Sissi made her considerable fame in Europe and the press began to document his every move.
After Sissi made during the filming of Christine, she fell in love with her co-star French actor Alain Delon and moved with him in Paris (1958). She was stereotyped as "Sissi" and wanted to escape the German press and tabloids. In Paris, Romy has been refurbished by Coco Chanel. German speaking people were shocked and everywhere regarded as a betrayal ("become French") but Romy is happy to leave the public scrutiny even if it meant the beginning of his career and even a new language, French.
After managing to appear in Paris in the play "Pity She's a whore, she was cast in the famous Italian film Boccaccio '70, which led her to the attention of Hollywood. So it departure for Hollywood.
She also starred in the film by Orson Welles, The process (trial), and in other films like What's New Pussycat and the cardinal. While in Hollywood, Delon called off their engagement. Romy returned to France in 1966 and married actor / director Harry Meyen. They all had one son, David, but that marriage ended in 1975. The tabloids called her "unlucky in love" and she even had a miscarriage that has made the headlines.
Romy has continued to make films and in 1977 she married the photographer and had Daniel Biasini a girl with him, Sarah. But, like the famous character in Sissi, Romy could not escape the tragedy. Her ex-husband Harry, the father of David, committed suicide 1979. And two years later, David died tragically at the age of 14 years in a freak accident. He tried to climb the fence fortified parents of his stepfather at home when he punctured his femoral artery and bled to death.
Romy started drinking too and sleeping pills to cope with his grief. She was found dead in his apartment in Paris May 29, 1982. After an examination, the authorities said she died of cardiac arrest. She was only 44 years. Her daughter Sarah has followed in his footsteps and is an actress in France.
Last year ARD (German Television) made a film about his life, but unfortunately I'm not sure how to find it here in the States and I am sure he has no subtitles.
While I hope that your interest is peeked in Romy and in his films. Really there is no more tragic, fascinating and talented actress of the twentieth century.
