Is he violating the copyright to use vintage images and photographs in the compositions of the art has changed?
I see people who sell art altered period photographs all the time and I am confused about the copyright on this kind of thing. I have some photos of women in collection of old magazines, I have 1900 and I want to incorporate these images into my own art. What real photographs period that you can purchase in antique stores? How those under copyright?
I think you need permission of the family, however, if no family around to challenge what you do, I do not see the problem. My dad used to own a studio photography and took many pictures of us children. I'm going to have an enlarged and they said that I have permission from the photographer to enlarge. I laughed and said he was my father and he is now deceased. they had not done and I was PO. to say the least. I've finally been enlarged with someone I knew. So this may be something you're really looking.
